Give wet kit a little space
A damp walk does not need to become a damp cupboard. Lay out the lead, jacket and harness when you return, with enough space for air to circulate. Keep muddy gear away from clean bedding.
Start with the care label
Different materials need different treatment. Follow the product’s washing instructions, brush away loose dirt when appropriate and avoid strong heat unless the maker recommends it. Check pockets and fastenings before washing.
Ready for the next forecast
Let each piece dry fully before putting it away. Look at clips, seams and the inside of boots for trapped grit. Keep a towel near the door and choose an easy-to-clean spot for the post-walk routine.
