A useful bowl is easy to clean, difficult to tip, and appropriately sized for the animal using it. Ceramic and stainless steel are popular because they are durable and do not retain odours when cared for properly.
Place food and water where your pet can eat without feeling cornered. In multi-pet homes, separate stations may reduce tension. Wash bowls daily and replace chipped or damaged surfaces.
If your pet struggles to eat, coughs during meals, or suddenly changes their feeding behaviour, ask a veterinary professional for individual advice.
